Chapter 7 An Unplanned Friendship
After that day, Elara dropped by Roselin’s library table every afternoon. She loved asking hard questions that most magic textbooks couldn’t answer, and loved it even more when Roselin took out paper and drew diagrams step by step.
One day Victor, the son of a noble who supported the royal court, walked past and knocked Elara’s stack of books to the floor. He said with a sneer, “Don’t you know your place? Someone like you shouldn’t study alongside the high-born.”

Roselin didn’t stand up to argue. She simply bent down and picked up Elara’s books one by one, calmly, then said evenly, “This textbook was printed with ink from a toolmaker in the harbor town. You can’t read it because you’ve never opened it.” Victor’s face went bright red, but he didn’t dare say another word.
Elara let out a long breath. “You didn’t need to help me that much.” Roselin smiled faintly. “I’m not helping you. I just don’t like seeing someone who works hard looked down on by someone who has never opened a book.”
From then on the two worked together. Elara wrote down the experiment notes while Roselin devised a formula that cut mana use by half. They gradually became trusted companions, though in her heart Roselin knew that having a true friend in this school could be dangerous too.
